Moore... Gardening
 Are
you a keen gardener or do you just like to" potter" in the garden? Either way
talking and sharing with like minded people helps a great deal, especially
if you are not familiar with the soil and climate conditions here. Gardening in
this part of the world is very different.
Therefore I strongly urge you to join one of our gardening clubs.
I also urge our gardening clubs to try to become more flexible in the way that
they meet and the way that they share with their members. This area was
once a series of predominantly retirement communities mixed with many
wealthy people who could attend meetings at almost any time. Only 10 years ago
there were few garden centers or nurseries here, the old Lowes had a shed on the
side of their building for plants and the old Wal-Mart had less than that.
The nurseries were mostly wholesale and the landscaping answer to almost
everything was pine straw. Except for a small number of folks gardening
was not a big thing here
Today things have changed
First the demographics have changed
considerably, there are thousands of people here now who want attractive
gardens; and that is reflected in the garden centers that are springing up,
just look at how much space Wal-Mart and Lowes devote to gardening. However many also work long hours and cannot get to afternoon and early
evening meetings, so how about having some meetings at other times maybe 5
O'clock on a Sunday afternoon or 8 O'clock on a week night.
If that won't work how about sharing the meetings on line so that
members who can't get to meetings can view the highlights later when they have a
few moments to spare.
Perhaps at some point in the future we could set up an on-line
garden club here! That would depend on how much interest there is, if you're
interested say so on the garden discussion web or e-mail me.
I personally collect hybrid hemerocallis (daylilies). I
have to date about 50 varieties and come spring time I would like to swap
some of my established ones with anyone who has varieties that I don't. In
the next couple of months I will try to list them on a page along with
photographs.
If you would care to do the same let me know.
Leonard.
